What you need

• A Windows 11 PC, with the GOAT Cam companion app from the download page.
• An iPhone or iPad running iOS 15 or later, with the GOAT Cam app and an active GOAT Cam Pro subscription.
• A USB cable, or both devices on the same Wi-Fi network.
• For USB: Apple's free Apple Devices app from the Microsoft Store, or iTunes. Wi-Fi does not need it.

GOAT Cam carries video only. Sound comes from your PC's microphone or your headset, as it did before.

Setup

1. Install the Windows companion app on the PC and let its one-time setup finish. Windows asks for administrator approval once, while the camera is registered.
2. Open the GOAT Cam app on the iPhone or iPad.
3. Over USB: Install Apple's free Apple Devices app from the Microsoft Store first — Windows needs it to talk to an iPhone or iPad over a cable. Plug the phone into the PC, unlock the phone, then tap Trust on the Trust This Computer? prompt and enter your passcode.
4. Over Wi-Fi: put the phone and the PC on the same network, and allow Local Network access when iOS asks for it.

Choose the camera in your video app

Open your video app's camera or video settings and pick the GOAT Cam camera. It has been tested in the Windows Camera app, OBS Studio and Google Chrome; other apps have not been tested yet. Some apps only re-read their camera list when they start, so if the camera is not listed, quit the video app and open it again.

Troubleshooting

Windows shows a Bonjour message during installation

Our installer also installs Apple's Bonjour, which is what lets the phone and the PC find each other over Wi-Fi. Windows sometimes objects to Bonjour's network plug-in and shows a message about it. GOAT Cam still installs and still works when that appears.

Bonjour is used to find the PC automatically over Wi-Fi. It is not used over USB, and on Wi-Fi you can do without it by opening the GOAT Cam settings on the phone and typing the PC's address in yourself. If the message keeps coming back and you do not want Bonjour, remove it from Settings › Apps › Installed apps on the PC and connect by USB or by typed address instead.

Windows Firewall asks about the app on first run

Allow GOAT Cam on private networks. If you dismissed that prompt, open Windows Security › Firewall & network protection › Allow an app through firewall and tick the private-network box for GOAT Cam.

The phone cannot find the PC over Wi-Fi

• Guest networks, and the "AP isolation" or "client isolation" setting on many routers, stop devices on the same network from seeing each other. Use your main network.
• A VPN on the phone or the PC can block local traffic between them. Turn it off for the test.
• Check that both devices really are on the same network, not one on 2.4 GHz guest and one on the main band.
• USB does not depend on your network, so it is a quick way to tell a network problem from an app problem — as long as Apple Devices or iTunes is installed.

The phone is not found over USB

• Install Apple's free Apple Devices app from the Microsoft Store, or iTunes. Windows needs one of them to talk to an iPhone or iPad over a cable.
• Unlock the phone, and tap Trust when it asks whether to trust this computer.
• Try another cable, or another USB port on the PC.

The camera is listed but there is no picture

• Check that the GOAT Cam app is open and on screen on the phone.
• Check that the GOAT Cam Pro subscription is active, in Settings › your name › Subscriptions on the phone.
• Only one video app at a time can hold the camera. Close the others and try again.

There is no sound

That is expected. GOAT Cam sends video only. Select your PC's microphone or your headset as the microphone in your video app.

Subscription

GOAT Cam Pro is a subscription sold by Apple. Manage or cancel it in Settings › your name › Subscriptions on your iPhone or iPad. Refunds are handled by Apple, not by us. Cancelling stops the renewal; the subscription keeps working until the end of the period you are in.

Uninstalling

On the PC, open Settings › Apps › Installed apps and remove WebCam Pro GOAT. Apple's Bonjour is listed separately and can be removed the same way — but leave it if other software on the PC uses it. On the phone, remove the GOAT Cam app as you would any other; cancel the subscription separately, in Settings, as above.
